Dow to buy out Mitsui & Co. in Brazil bioethanol JV for $200 million

Mitsui & Co. (Tokyo) today announced that it has reached an agreement with Dow Chemical to sell its share in their 50-50 joint venture company, Santa Vitória Açúcar eÁlcool Ltda (SVAA; Santa Vitória, Brazil), to Dow for about $200 million. The jv was formed in 2011, when Mitsui acquired a 50% stake in Dow’s operations at Santa Vitória. SVAA operates a sugarcane field, and is involved in the production and sale of bioethanol, bioethylene, biopolyethylene and sugarcane derived chemicals. Mitsui expects to complete the sale of its stake in SVAA to Dow by July 2016.
